The Blight is Dead by Daylight’s highest mobility killer and one of the strongest killers in the game. He uses his Rush ability to pinball around the map at incredible speeds, then slam into survivors for instant downs. Blight has an extremely high skill ceiling but rewards mastery with unmatched map pressure and chase potential.
Blight is the killer of choice for many top players and competitive teams. He’s fast, he’s lethal, and in skilled hands, nearly unstoppable. Let’s break down how to master him.
The Blight’s Power: Blighted Corruption
Ability: The Blight rushes forward at high speed, bouncing off objects to chain multiple rushes together. After bouncing, he can perform a Lethal Rush attack.
Rush Mechanics (M2)
How it works:
- Hold M2 to charge a Rush (takes ~1 second)
- Release M2 to rush forward at high speed (9.2 m/s / 230% speed)
- You have 5 Rush tokens by default
- Bumping into objects (walls, trees, etc.) lets you Rush again
- After 2+ rushes, you can perform a Lethal Rush attack (M1 during Rush)
- Lethal Rush attacks injure or down survivors
Rush tokens:
- You have 5 Rush tokens
- Each Rush consumes 1 token
- Tokens recharge after ~10 seconds of not rushing
- You can chain up to 5 rushes back-to-back
Bumping:
- When you bump into an object during Rush, you stop
- You can immediately Rush again (consumes another token)
- Bumping resets your Rush direction
- You can bump up to 5 times (using all 5 tokens)
Lethal Rush:
- After 2+ rushes, you can attack during Rush
- Press M1 while rushing to perform a Lethal Rush attack
- Lethal Rush injures healthy survivors or downs injured survivors
- After Lethal Rush, all Rush tokens are consumed and you enter fatigue
Fatigue:
- After using all Rush tokens or performing a Lethal Rush, you enter fatigue
- Fatigue lasts ~2.5 seconds
- You move slowly and can’t attack during fatigue
- Rush tokens recharge during/after fatigue
Key concept: Blight rushes around the map, bounces off objects, and uses Lethal Rush to attack survivors. He’s about chaining rushes together and predicting survivor movement.
Bump Logic
Understanding what you can and can’t bump off is CRITICAL to playing Blight.
What You Can Bump
Solid objects:
- Walls
- Trees
- Rocks
- Pallets (dropped or standing)
- Breakable walls
- Most large objects
Map objects:
- Killer shack walls
- Main building walls
- Jungle gym walls
- Hay bales, crates, etc.
What You Can’t Bump (Slide Objects)
Some objects cause collision sliding instead of bumping. When you hit these, you slide along them without stopping.
Common slide objects:
- Short loops (some LT-walls, certain tiles)
- Some rocks (map-dependent)
- Certain railings
- Some car models
- Specific map geometry
Why this matters: If you can’t bump an object, you can’t chain rushes off it. You slide past it and waste tokens. Learning which objects bump vs slide is essential.
Map knowledge: Every map has different bump/slide objects. Play Blight extensively to learn each map’s collision.
Rush Techniques
Blight has several advanced techniques that separate good players from great ones.
1. Basic Rush Attack
What it is: Rushing toward a survivor in a straight line and attacking.
How to do it:
- Rush toward survivor (1st Rush)
- Bump off an object
- Rush toward survivor again (2nd Rush)
- Press M1 to Lethal Rush and hit them
When to use: In the open, at short loops, when survivors are running away.
2. Hug Tech (Controversial)
What it is: Sliding along certain objects while turning sharply to change direction mid-rush without bumping.
How to do it:
- Rush toward a slideable object
- As you slide along it, turn sharply
- You change direction without consuming a bump
Why it’s controversial: Some consider this an exploit. Behavior has attempted to patch it but it still exists. Use at your own risk - it may be removed in future patches.
Note: We won’t focus heavily on Hug Tech in this guide since its future is uncertain.
3. Bump Logic Mastery
What it is: Understanding which objects bump and which slide on each map.
How to master it:
- Play Blight on every map
- Test objects (rush into them and see if you bump or slide)
- Learn which loops are strong for Blight (bumpable walls) and which aren’t (slide walls)
Why it’s essential: Blight’s power is useless if you can’t bump. Map knowledge IS Blight mastery.
4. Flick Attacks
What it is: Turning your camera sharply during Lethal Rush to hit survivors who juke.
How to do it:
- Perform Lethal Rush
- As you’re attacking, flick your camera left or right
- Hit survivors who tried to dodge
Why it works: Survivors expect you to rush in a straight line. Flicking lets you track their movement and land hits.
Practice tip: Flicking is hard. Practice in custom matches. Start with small flicks, then work up to 90+ degree flicks.
5. J-Flick (Nerfed but Still Possible)
What it is: An extreme flick (180+ degrees) during Lethal Rush.
Current state: Behavior nerfed J-flicks by capping turn rate. You can still flick ~90-120 degrees, but not full 180s like before.
How to do it: Flick your camera as fast as possible during Lethal Rush. The game caps your turn rate, but you can still get significant turns.
6. Zoning with Rushes
What it is: Using Rush to force survivors into bad positions without attacking.
How to do it:
- Rush toward a survivor at a loop
- Don’t attack - just get close
- Survivors panic and run to weaker loops
- Follow up with another Rush and attack
Why it works: Blight’s speed is intimidating. Survivors make mistakes when pressured by Rushes.
Early Game Strategy
Blight’s early game is about using his mobility to find survivors fast and get first downs.
Opening sequence:
- Rush across the map - Don’t walk. Rush to the center of the map immediately.
- Check gens - Rush between 3-4 gens, look for survivors
- First chase - Find someone and commit
- Use Rushes at loops - Bump off walls and Lethal Rush them
- Hook and patrol - Rush to the next gen
Goal: Get your first down quickly using Blight’s speed. You can check gens faster than any other killer.
Common mistake: Walking instead of rushing. You should be rushing almost constantly. Rush for mobility, not just attacks.
Mid-Game Strategy
Mid-game is where Blight dominates. You’re chaining rushes, ending chases in seconds, and applying massive pressure.
Rush between gens:
- After hooking, rush to the next gen with survivors
- You cross the map in 5-10 seconds
- Interrupt gen progress constantly
Chain downs quickly:
- Blight ends chases FAST with Rushes
- Down someone, hook them, rush to the next survivor
- You can pressure 2-3 survivors in the time it takes other killers to chase one
Bump off everything:
- Use walls, trees, and objects to chain rushes
- Navigate the map like a pinball
- The more you bump, the more mobile you are
Snowball potential:
- Blight can down multiple survivors in quick succession
- Chain downs aggressively when survivors group up
Endgame Strategy
Blight is extremely strong endgame with his mobility.
Rush between exit gates:
- You can patrol both gates in seconds
- Survivors can’t open gates without you knowing
Rush attacks at gates:
- Survivors opening gates are stationary
- Rush and Lethal Rush them for downs
Bodyblock with Rushes:
- Rush to block survivors’ paths
- Force them away from exits
NOED synergy:
- If you run NOED, Blight becomes unstoppable endgame
- One Rush attack downs anyone
Best Perks for Blight
Blight wants perks that help him capitalize on his speed and pressure.
Top Tier Perks
Hex: Ruin - Gens not being repaired regress at 200% speed. Blight applies massive pressure with his mobility, so Ruin gets insane value. Top-tier on Blight.
Hex: Undying - Transfers Ruin to another totem when cleansed. Makes Ruin last longer. Essential pairing with Ruin.
Tinkerer - Get alerted when a gen hits 70% and become Undetectable. Rush across the map and surprise survivors. Perfect for Blight’s mobility.
Lethal Pursuer - See all survivors at the start for 9 seconds. Find your first chase immediately. Blight benefits hugely from fast first downs.
Pain Resonance (Scourge Hook) - Hooking on scourge hooks regresses the gen with most progress. Blight hooks survivors constantly, so this gets tons of value.
Strong Perks
Corrupt Intervention - Blocks the 3 farthest gens for 120 seconds. Gives you time to find survivors and start pressure.
Deadlock - Blocks the gen with most progress for 30 seconds when a gen completes. Buys you time to rush across the map and pressure.
Pop Goes the Weasel - After hooking, kick a gen to regress it by 30%. Blight can reach any gen quickly, so Pop is efficient.
Barbecue & Chili (BBQ) - See survivors’ auras after hooking. Shows you exactly where to rush next.
Shadowborn - Increases FOV. Many Blight players use this for better visibility during rushes.
Eruption - Kick a gen, then down a survivor. The gen explodes and regresses. Good for passive slowdown.

Best Add-Ons
Blight’s add-ons modify his Rush speed, tokens, and slam duration.
Top Tier Add-Ons
Alchemist’s Ring (Pink - Ultra Rare) - After hitting a survivor with Lethal Rush, your Rush tokens instantly refill. Lets you chain multiple Lethal Rushes. EXTREMELY strong. Top-tier add-on.
Adrenaline Vial (Pink - Ultra Rare) - Reduces fatigue time and increases rush speed. Makes Blight feel incredibly smooth and fast.
Compound Thirty-Three (C33) (Purple - Very Rare) - Increased Rush turn rate. Makes it much easier to control Blight during rushes. Essential for beginners.
Alchemist’s Ring + Adrenaline Vial is considered one of the strongest add-on combos in the entire game.
Strong Add-Ons
Compound Twenty-One (C21) (Green - Rare) - Considerably increases Rush speed. You move even faster during Rush. Great for map pressure.
Blighted Crow (Green - Rare) - Reduces Rush charge time. Faster rushes = more mobility.
Canker Thorn (Green - Rare) - Increases Rush duration. You rush farther before the Rush ends.
Umbra Salts (Yellow - Uncommon) - Moderately increases Rush speed. Budget version of C21.
Avoid These Add-Ons
Iridescent Blight Tag (Pink - Ultra Rare) - Survivors hit by Lethal Rush are Exposed for 30 seconds if they’re healthy. This ONLY works on healthy survivors and doesn’t injure them first. Almost useless. One of the worst Ultra Rare add-ons.
Blighted Rat - Slightly increases Rush speed. Effect is too minor to matter.
Sample Add-On Combos
God Tier Build: Alchemist’s Ring + Adrenaline Vial (instant token refill + fast rush + low fatigue)
Speed Build: Compound Twenty-One + Umbra Salts (insane rush speed)
Control Build: Compound Thirty-Three + Blighted Crow (better turn rate + faster charges)
Budget Build: Umbra Salts + Canker Thorn (decent speed + longer rushes)
Playing Against Good Survivors
Good survivors make Blight work harder, but he’s still one of the strongest killers.
They predrop pallets: Good. Break the pallet with Rush or M1, then continue. Pallets barely slow Blight down.
They use slide objects: Some survivors know which objects slide and try to loop you there. Learn these objects and avoid them, or bump off nearby walls instead.
They double back: Survivors run one direction, then turn around. Counter by predicting this and Rushing where they double back to.
They Dead Hard: Wait out Dead Hard, then Rush again and Lethal Rush them.
They split on gens: Blight counters gen splitting perfectly. Rush between gens and interrupt constantly.
They’re in a SWF: Comms let them coordinate, but Blight’s speed lets you pressure the entire team at once. Rush aggressively.
Common Mistakes to Avoid
Rushing in the open without objects: You need objects to bump off. Don’t Rush in dead zones with no walls.
Not using M1: Blight has a basic attack. Sometimes M1 is faster than setting up a Rush attack.
Overcommitting to Rush attacks: If you miss 3-4 Rushes, just M1 chase normally. Don’t tunnel vision on Rushes.
Not learning bump logic: This is THE most important skill for Blight. Learn every map’s collision.
Rushing at slide objects: Learn which objects slide and avoid them. Rushing at slide objects wastes tokens.
Not flicking: Flicking is essential for hitting survivors who juke. Practice this.
Fatigue management: After Lethal Rush, you’re in fatigue. Position yourself safely before attacking.
Map-Specific Tips
Indoor Maps (The Game, Lery’s, Midwich, RPD) - Mixed for Blight. Tight corridors have lots of walls to bump, but slide objects are common. Learn each map’s collision carefully.
Open Maps (Coldwind, MacMillan, Autohaven) - Great for Blight. Tons of objects to bump, open sight lines, easy Rushes. Blight dominates open maps.
Large Maps (Mother’s Dwelling, Red Forest) - Still strong for Blight. His mobility lets him cover huge maps quickly. Other killers struggle, Blight doesn’t.
Corn Maps (Coldwind Farm) - Strong for Blight. Corn doesn’t block Rushes. You can Rush through corn and hit survivors.
Multi-Level Maps (The Game, Midwich) - Decent for Blight. You can Rush on all levels. Learn which objects bump on each floor.
Bad Blight Maps: Lery’s Memorial Institute (tons of slide objects), Haddonfield (before rework had bad collision, post-rework is better).
Why Play Blight?
Pros:
- Highest mobility in the game
- Extremely strong in chases
- Map pressure is unmatched
- High skill ceiling (always room to improve)
- Top-tier killer in competitive play
- Rewarding and satisfying when mastered
- Fun pinball gameplay
Cons:
- VERY high skill floor (hard to learn)
- Requires extensive map knowledge
- Bump logic is inconsistent on some maps
- Weak against slide objects
- Fatigue is punishing
- Takes 50-100+ hours to master
Advanced Tips
Rush for mobility, not just attacks: Use Rushes to patrol gens, not just chase. Blight is about SPEED.
Bump off everything: Practice bumping off trees, rocks, walls. The more comfortable you are bumping, the better.
Flick practice: Spend matches practicing flicks. Start small (30-degree flicks), work up to 90+ degrees.
Learn every map: Blight’s power is heavily map-dependent. You MUST know which objects bump and which slide.
Use Rushes to break pallets: You can Rush into pallets to break them quickly. This is faster than M1 breaking.
Rush to hooks: After downing someone, Rush to the nearest hook. Saves time.
Chain short rushes: You don’t always need to use all 5 tokens. Sometimes 2-3 short rushes are enough.
Fatigue positioning: Before Lethal Rushing, position yourself so you’re safe during fatigue. Don’t Lethal Rush into a corner.
Bait Dead Hard: Rush toward a survivor, wait for Dead Hard, then Lethal Rush.
Learning Curve and Practice
Blight has the steepest learning curve of any killer except Nurse.
Hours 0-20: You’ll miss Rushes constantly. You’ll slide off objects. You’ll fatigue in bad positions. This is normal.
Hours 20-50: You’ll start landing Rushes occasionally. You’ll learn some bump logic. Still losing many matches.
Hours 50-100: You’re landing Rushes consistently. You know most maps’ collision. Winning most matches.
Hours 100-300: You’re a strong Blight. Flicks are second nature. Bump logic is ingrained. Dominating matches.
Hours 300+: You’re a Blight main. You know every map perfectly. You’re unstoppable.
Practice tips:
- Play custom matches to learn bump logic
- Watch Blight streamers (Lilith Omen, HensDBD)
- Focus on ONE map at a time (learn all its collision)
- Don’t get discouraged. Blight takes TIME.
Final Thoughts
The Blight is Dead by Daylight’s highest mobility killer and one of the strongest in the game. He rewards mastery with unmatched map pressure, incredible chase potential, and satisfying pinball gameplay.
Blight has a brutal learning curve. You’ll struggle for 20-50 hours. But once it clicks - once you understand bump logic, flicks, and rush chaining - you’ll have one of the most powerful killers in the game.
Don’t give up. Learn the maps. Practice flicks. Master bump logic. Blight is worth the investment.
Good luck, and may your rushes always find their mark.
