The Singularity Guide - Master Biopods and Slipstream

Complete guide to playing The Singularity in Dead by Daylight. Learn biopod placement, Slipstream mechanics, teleportation, EMPs, best perks, add-ons, and advanced tech.

The Singularity is Dead by Daylight’s most complex and mechanically demanding killer. He places Biopods (cameras) around the map, infects survivors with Slipstream by tagging them through the cameras, then teleports directly to infected survivors for instant pressure. The Singularity rewards multi-tasking, camera management, and strategic pod placement.

Singularity has the highest skill ceiling in DBD alongside Nurse and Blight. He’s incredibly powerful when mastered but overwhelming for new players. Let’s break down how to play him effectively.

The Singularity’s Power: Quantum Instantiation

Ability: The Singularity places Biopods (cameras) around the map, uses them to tag survivors with Slipstream infection, then teleports to infected survivors.

Biopods (Cameras)

How Biopods work:

  • Press M2 to deploy a Biopod (camera)
  • Biopods stick to walls, ceilings, floors, and objects
  • You have 8 Biopods total
  • Biopods have a 12-meter range
  • Survivors within range appear on the Biopod’s camera feed
  • You can switch between Biopods to view different areas

Placing Biopods:

  • Aim where you want the pod
  • Press M2 to shoot it
  • Pod sticks to the surface
  • Pod is now active and monitoring that area

Biopod vision:

  • Press Ctrl (or power button) to enter Biopod Mode
  • You view through your Biopods’ cameras
  • You can cycle through different pods
  • Survivors within range appear on camera

Key concept: Biopods are security cameras that let you monitor multiple areas at once. You’re placing cameras around the map to track survivors.

Slipstream (Infection)

How Slipstream works:

  • While viewing a Biopod, you can TAG survivors on camera
  • Look at a survivor through a Biopod and hold left click
  • After ~1.5 seconds, the survivor is infected with Slipstream
  • Infected survivors have a white aura around them (visible through walls)
  • Slipstream lasts 45 seconds

What Slipstream does:

  • You can see infected survivors through walls (white aura)
  • You can TELEPORT to infected survivors
  • Infected survivors move slightly slower (small Hindered effect)

Slipstream decay:

  • Slipstream lasts 45 seconds
  • After 45 seconds, infection expires
  • You must re-infect survivors to maintain tracking

Key concept: Slipstream is your tracking and teleport mechanic. Infect survivors to see where they are and teleport to them.

Teleportation (Overclock)

How teleporting works:

  • When a survivor is infected with Slipstream, you can teleport to them
  • Press M2 (while not in Biopod Mode) to teleport
  • You teleport within ~5 meters of the infected survivor
  • After teleporting, you enter Overclock mode for 6 seconds

Overclock mode:

  • Your FOV increases (wider view)
  • Your movement speed increases (faster)
  • You attack faster (reduced M1 cooldown)
  • Lasts 6 seconds after teleporting

Teleport cooldown: After teleporting, you have a brief cooldown before you can teleport again.

Key concept: Teleportation is your chase tool. Infect survivors, teleport to them, and down them with Overclock speed.

EMPs (Survivor Counterplay)

Survivors can counter Singularity with EMPs (Electromagnetic Pulse devices).

How EMPs work:

  • EMPs spawn in printers around the map (7 printers total)
  • Survivors print EMPs by interacting with printers (takes 4 seconds)
  • Each survivor can hold 1 EMP
  • Using an EMP:
    • Removes Slipstream infection from the user
    • Disables nearby Biopods for 45 seconds
    • Removes Slipstream from nearby survivors

Why EMPs are strong: EMPs completely shut down Singularity’s power in an area. Biopods are disabled, Slipstream is removed, and you can’t teleport.

How to play around EMPs: Place Biopods in areas survivors can’t easily reach with EMPs. Spread pods out so one EMP doesn’t disable multiple pods.

Biopod Placement Strategy

Biopod placement is the MOST IMPORTANT skill for Singularity.

Where to Place Biopods

1. Above generators:

  • Place pods on ceilings or high walls near gens
  • You can see survivors working on gens
  • Tag them with Slipstream, teleport to them

2. At common loops:

  • Jungle gyms, LT-walls, short tiles
  • When survivors loop these areas, you tag them
  • Teleport mid-chase for instant pressure

3. In narrow corridors (indoor maps):

  • Hallways, doorways, staircases
  • Survivors MUST pass through these areas
  • Easy Slipstream tags

4. Near hooks:

  • Place pods to watch hooked survivors
  • Tag rescuers with Slipstream
  • Teleport to them after unhook

5. At high traffic areas:

  • Center of the map, common pathways
  • Survivors pass through frequently
  • More opportunities to tag them

Where NOT to Place Biopods

Low ceilings survivors can reach:

  • Survivors can EMP these pods easily
  • Place pods HIGH where EMPs don’t reach

Dead zones with no objectives:

  • Don’t place pods in corners of the map with nothing
  • Focus on gens, loops, and pathways

Too close together:

  • One EMP can disable multiple pods
  • Spread pods out

Facing walls:

  • Pods need to see survivors
  • Don’t place pods facing blank walls

Playing Singularity: The Loop

Singularity’s gameplay loop is:

  1. Place Biopods around important areas
  2. Enter Biopod Mode to view cameras
  3. Tag survivors with Slipstream
  4. Teleport to infected survivors
  5. Chase in Overclock mode (6 seconds of speed/power)
  6. Repeat

Key concept: You’re constantly cycling between placing pods, tagging survivors, and teleporting. Multi-tasking is essential.

Early Game Strategy

Singularity’s early game is about establishing Biopod coverage.

Opening sequence:

  1. Place 4-6 Biopods around the center of the map
  2. Focus on gens - place pods near gens with progress
  3. Enter Biopod Mode - check cameras for survivors
  4. Tag survivors with Slipstream
  5. Teleport to the first infected survivor
  6. Chase in Overclock mode

Goal: Get Biopod coverage as quickly as possible. The more pods you have, the more map pressure you have.

Common mistake: Chasing survivors normally without placing pods first. Singularity is WEAK without Biopods. Place pods BEFORE committing to long chases.

Mid-Game Strategy

Mid-game is where Singularity dominates with full Biopod coverage.

Biopod network:

  • You should have 6-8 Biopods placed
  • Cover all important gens
  • Monitor cameras constantly

Slipstream pressure:

  • Tag multiple survivors
  • Teleport to whoever is in the worst position
  • Chain teleports between infected survivors

Multi-tasking:

  • While chasing one survivor, check cameras to tag others
  • Teleport to new targets when your current chase is weak
  • You’re pressuring multiple survivors at once

Biopod maintenance:

  • If survivors EMP your pods, replace them
  • Always have 6-8 active pods

Endgame Strategy

Singularity is strong endgame with teleportation.

Biopods at exit gates:

  • Place pods near both exit gates
  • Tag survivors opening gates
  • Teleport to them instantly

Slipstream endgame pressure:

  • Infected survivors are easy to track
  • Teleport between gates quickly
  • Survivors can’t escape easily

Overclock at gates:

  • Teleport to survivors at gates
  • Overclock speed lets you down them before they escape

Best Perks for Singularity

Singularity wants perks that help him slow gens and capitalize on his teleportation.

Top Tier Perks

Hex: Ruin - Gens not being repaired regress at 200% speed. Singularity applies massive pressure with teleportation, so Ruin gets insane value.

Corrupt Intervention - Blocks the 3 farthest gens for 120 seconds. Gives you time to place Biopods and establish coverage.

Deadlock - Blocks the gen with most progress for 30 seconds when a gen completes. Buys you time to teleport and pressure.

Scourge Hook: Pain Resonance - Hooking on scourge hooks regresses the gen with most progress. Singularity hooks frequently with teleportation, so this gets tons of value.

Strong Perks

Pop Goes the Weasel - After hooking, kick a gen to regress it by 30%. Singularity can reach gens quickly with teleports.

Barbecue & Chili (BBQ) - See survivors’ auras after hooking. Shows you who to Slipstream and teleport to next.

Lethal Pursuer - See all survivors at the start for 9 seconds. Helps you place Biopods near survivors immediately.

Thrilling Tremors - When you pick up a survivor, gens not being worked on are blocked. Shows you which gens have survivors.

Monitor & Abuse - Reduces Terror Radius outside of chases. Helps you place Biopods without survivors hearing you approach.

Best Add-Ons

Singularity’s add-ons modify his Biopod range, Slipstream duration, teleport speed, and EMP counters.

Top Tier Add-Ons

Soma Family Photo (Pink - Ultra Rare) - Considerably increases Slipstream duration (from 45 seconds to ~70 seconds). Infected survivors stay infected much longer. Very strong.

Prismatic Lens (Purple - Very Rare) - Considerably increases Biopod detection range (from 12 meters to ~18 meters). Easier to tag survivors from farther away.

Holographic Generator (Purple - Very Rare) - Survivors repairing generators are automatically tagged with Slipstream if within Biopod range. VERY strong for gen defense.

Iridescent Oppression Protocol (Pink - Ultra Rare) - Survivors who use EMPs become Exposed for 45 seconds. Punishes EMP usage. Strong against coordinated teams.

Strong Add-Ons

Ultrasonic Sensor (Green - Rare) - Moderately increases Biopod detection range. Budget version of Prismatic Lens.

Diagnostic Tool (Green - Rare) - Moderately reduces Slipstream tagging time (from ~1.5 seconds to ~1 second). Faster Slipstream application.

Repurposed VCR (Yellow - Uncommon) - Slightly increases Slipstream duration. Budget duration add-on.

Biodome Keycard (Yellow - Uncommon) - Slightly increases Biopod detection range. Budget range add-on.

Avoid These Add-Ons

Emergency Battery - Slightly reduces EMP printing time. This HELPS survivors, not you. Never use this.

Crew Manifest - Slightly increases time to print EMPs. Effect is too minor to matter.

Sample Add-On Combos

Duration Build: Soma Family Photo + Repurposed VCR (extremely long Slipstream duration)

Range Build: Prismatic Lens + Ultrasonic Sensor (huge Biopod detection range)

Gen Defense Build: Holographic Generator + Diagnostic Tool (auto-tag on gens + fast tagging)

Anti-EMP Build: Iridescent Oppression Protocol + Prismatic Lens (Exposed on EMP use + long range)

Budget Build: Ultrasonic Sensor + Diagnostic Tool (decent range + fast tagging)

Playing Against Good Survivors

Good survivors make Singularity work much harder.

They use EMPs constantly: Coordinated teams print and use EMPs aggressively. Counter by placing pods HIGH where EMPs don’t reach and spreading pods out.

They destroy Biopods: Survivors can destroy pods by looking at them. Counter by placing pods in hard-to-see locations (high ceilings, behind objects).

They avoid Biopod areas: Some survivors learn where your pods are and avoid them. Counter by placing new pods in unexpected locations.

They split on gens: Singularity can pressure multiple gens with teleportation. Keep tagging and teleporting.

They predrop pallets: Good. Break pallets with Overclock speed and continue chasing.

They’re in a SWF: Comms let them coordinate EMP usage and call out Biopod locations. Counter by placing pods aggressively and teleporting frequently.

Common Mistakes to Avoid

Not placing enough Biopods: You need 6-8 active pods for good coverage. Don’t be stingy.

Placing all pods in one area: Spread pods across the map. One EMP shouldn’t disable all your pods.

Not checking cameras: Enter Biopod Mode frequently to tag survivors. Don’t just place pods and forget them.

Teleporting to survivors at strong loops: Don’t teleport to a survivor at shack or main building. Teleport to survivors in weak positions.

Chasing without Slipstream: If a survivor isn’t infected, TAG them first, THEN chase. Overclock is essential for downs.

Ignoring EMPs: If survivors are EMPing your pods constantly, adapt. Place pods higher or in different locations.

Not using Overclock effectively: After teleporting, you have 6 seconds of speed. Use it to down survivors quickly.

Map-Specific Tips

Indoor Maps (The Game, Lery’s, Midwich, RPD) - VERY strong for Singularity. Tight corridors make Biopod coverage easy. Survivors can’t avoid pods. Singularity dominates indoor maps.

Open Maps (Coldwind, MacMillan, Autohaven) - Harder for Singularity. Survivors can avoid Biopod areas more easily. Focus on placing pods at key gens and loops.

Large Maps (Mother’s Dwelling, Red Forest) - Still strong for Singularity. Teleportation covers huge maps instantly. Other killers struggle, Singularity doesn’t.

Multi-Level Maps (The Game, Midwich) - Great for Singularity. Place pods on multiple floors for full coverage. Survivors can’t escape your vision.

Small Maps - ANY small map is strong for Singularity. Less ground to cover = easier Biopod placement.

Why Play Singularity?

Pros:

  • Highest skill ceiling (always room to improve)
  • Map-wide teleportation (incredible pressure)
  • Multi-tasking gameplay (cameras + chases)
  • Strong when mastered
  • Unique and complex playstyle
  • Rewards strategic thinking
  • Great map pressure

Cons:

  • EXTREMELY high skill floor (very hard to learn)
  • Overwhelming for new players
  • Countered by EMPs
  • Requires constant multi-tasking
  • Weak without Biopod coverage
  • Takes 100+ hours to master
  • Survivors can disable your power

Advanced Tips

High Biopod placement: Place pods HIGH on ceilings where EMPs don’t reach. Survivors have to look up to see them.

Hidden Biopod placement: Place pods behind objects, in corners, on dark surfaces. Harder for survivors to spot.

Tag multiple survivors: Don’t just tag one survivor. Tag 2-3 survivors, then teleport to whoever is in the worst position.

Overclock usage: After teleporting, you have 6 seconds. Use it to down survivors FAST. Don’t waste Overclock time.

Biopod cycling: Check multiple cameras quickly. Tag survivors, switch cameras, tag more survivors. Efficient multi-tasking.

Teleport mid-chase: If your current chase is weak, tag another survivor and teleport to them. Don’t commit to bad chases.

Replace destroyed pods: If survivors destroy your pods, replace them immediately. Always have 6-8 active.

EMP baiting: Place obvious pods to bait EMP usage, then place your REAL pods in better locations.

Camera checking during chases: While chasing, briefly enter Biopod Mode to tag other survivors. Multi-task constantly.

Learning Curve and Practice

Singularity has the steepest learning curve of any killer.

Hours 0-20: Overwhelming. Too much to track. Biopods everywhere. You’ll lose most matches.

Hours 20-50: Starting to understand Biopod placement. Tagging survivors occasionally. Still struggling.

Hours 50-100: Biopod coverage is improving. Teleporting more effectively. Winning some matches.

Hours 100-200: Strong Singularity player. Multi-tasking is improving. Dominating many matches.

Hours 200+: Singularity main. Camera management is second nature. Unstoppable.

Practice tips:

  • Focus on Biopod placement first (ignore chases initially)
  • Learn one map at a time (master Biopod spots)
  • Practice multi-tasking (cameras while chasing)
  • Watch Singularity streamers (Hens333, Otzdarva)
  • Don’t give up - Singularity takes TIME

Final Thoughts

The Singularity is Dead by Daylight’s most complex and mechanically demanding killer. He rewards multi-tasking, strategic thinking, and camera management with incredible map pressure and teleportation.

Singularity has a brutal learning curve. You’ll struggle for 50-100 hours. But once you master him - once Biopod placement is second nature and multi-tasking is automatic - you’ll have one of the strongest killers in the game.

Don’t give up. Learn Biopod placement. Practice multi-tasking. Master camera management. Singularity is worth the investment.

Good luck, and may your Biopods always see their targets.
